Original recipe yields 1 serving
1 1/2 cups dry white wine
1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
1 egg
1/4 cup water
1 tsp salt
1 tsp ground black pepper
2 heaping tsp. fennel or anise seeds
4 heaping Tbsp. baking powder
6 1/2 cups flour

Mix wine and oil in a large bowl. In separate bowl beat egg and add water, salt and pepper. Then add to oil and wine mixture and mix well. Taste for salt and adjust as necessary. Add fennel or anise seeds and mix well. Add baking powder but DO NOT STIR!!! Add flour by cupfuls until you get a good workable dough not too soft not too dry.

Turn out on a board and knead 2-3 minutes. Do not add more flour unless dough is sticky. Take a piece of dough and roll into a long piece about the thickness of a broom handle. Cut into 1 inch pieces and shape into different forms (circle, S shape, diamond).

Bake at 400°F until light brown on an ungreased cookie sheet.
