Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Prepare a bread pan by greasing and lightly flouring it. Cream together the shortening, sugar and eggs, then stir in the mashed bananas. Set aside. Sift the flour, soda and salt together into a separate bowl. Gradually add sifted ingredients to the creamed mixture and blend well. Fold in nuts and chocolate chips, if desired.
Pour mixture into 9"x 5" bread pan and sprinkle cinnamon sugar or cinnamon over the top of the loaf.
