Original recipe yields 1 serving
DATE MIXTURE
1 1/2 cups chopped dates
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup water
1 cup chopped nuts
DOUGH
1 cup shortening
2 cups brown sugar
3 eggs, beaten
4 cups flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp soda
1 tsp vanilla

Stir dates, sugar and water in pan, bringing to boil for 2 minutes. Add chopped nuts and cool.

Mix dough ingredients and roll out to 1/2" thick. Spread date mixture over it and roll up like a jelly roll. Chill until real firm.

Slice and bake on greased cookie sheet 375°F for 8-10 minutes.
