9 x 9 inch pan brownies, baked and cooled in the pan
1 package (14 oz.) caramel candies
1/4 cup milk
12 oz package semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 tsp shortening
1 cup lightly salted peanuts
1 cup gently broken pretzels

Combine the caramel candies and milk. Microwave on high in 30-second bursts, stirring between, until melted and smooth. Pour the mixture over the brownies and spread to the edges. When the caramel has cooled, make the next layer.

Combine the chocolate and shortening. Microwave on high in 30-second bursts, stirring between, until melted and smooth. Add the peanuts and pretzels, and then stir gently. Top the caramel with the chocolate mixture. Let cool and harden before cutting.
