Original recipe yields 1 serving
1/2 cup margarine (softened at room temperature)
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups buttermilk (room temperature)
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 large jar cherries, chopped
1 cup nuts chopped walnuts (optional)
4 cups flour

Cream margarine, sugar and buttermilk together. Add salt, baking soda and cherries and nuts. Fold in flour until completely moistened.

Roll out on flour board. Divide dough in half.

Bake at 375°F for 35 to 40 minutes, preferably on baking stone. Test with toothpick.
