Red Velvet Cake
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups flour
2 tsp cocoa
1 tsp salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla
2 oz red food coloring
1 Tbsp vinegar
1 tsp baking soda

1 cup milk
1/4 cup flour
3/4 cup white shortening
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Cream shortening & sugar, add whole eggs one at a time. Beat until smooth & well blended. Sift flour, cocoa, and salt together. Add buttermilk, vanilla & red food coloring. Mix together vinegar and baking soda and fold in last. DO NOT beat after this addition.

Grease and line 9x13x2 pan with was paper. Pour batter into pan.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes.

Red Velvet Cake Frosting

Combine milk & flour-cook until thick stirring constantly. Set aside to cool. Cream shortening & sugar until light & fluffy. Add vanilla & cooled milk & flour mixture. Beat until frosting becomes stiff.
