Partially melt butter in skillet at medium heat; add slightly beaten eggs and sugar. Mix thoroughly and blend in dates which have been cut in small pieces. Cook five minutes over low heat, stirring constantly.
Gradually add flour and cook until thick (7- 10 minutes), stirring constantly. Add salt, vanilla, chopped walnuts and Rice Krispies Cereal.
When cooled to lukewarm, shape into balls resembling strawberries using about one teaspoon for each. Roll in red colored sugar. Add green icing stems with cake decorator if desired.
