Pork, sliced apples and super-sharp cheddar cheese team up to make this tasty strata a winner. Bonus: It only takes 20 minutes to prep for the oven.

Original recipe yields 12 servings
12 slices day-old white bread, crusts removed, divided
1 lb. pork sausage, crumbled, cooked and drained
2 apple s, cored, thinly sliced
3/4 lb. (12 oz.) HOFFMAN'S SUPER-SHARP Pasteurized Process Cheddar Cheese, cut into 12 slices
4 egg s
2 cups milk
1/8 tsp. ground black pepper
1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp. ground red pepper

Place 6 of the bread slices in 13x9-inch baking pan sprayed with cooking spray. Cover with layers of half each of the sausage, apples and process cheese. Repeat layers.

Beat eggs, milk and seasonings with wire whisk until well blended. Pour over process cheese slices. Gently press remaining 6 bread slices into liquid to completely cover bread slices; cover. Refrigerate several hours or overnight.

Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake 50 min. to 1 hour or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Let stand 10 min. before cutting to serve.
