Original recipe yields 10 servings
1-1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
2 egg s
1 cup plain nonfat Greek-style yogurt
1 tsp. vanilla
2 Tbsp. PLANTERS Sliced Almonds

Heat oven to 350ºF.

Mix first 3 ingredients; set aside. Beat butter and sugar in large bowl with mixer until light and fluffy. Blend in eggs. Add yogurt and vanilla; mix well. Gradually beat in flour mixture until well blended.

Pour into 9-inch round pan sprayed with cooking spray; top with nuts.

Bake 30 min. or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 min. Loosen cake from side of pan with knife. Invert cake onto wire rack; gently remove pan. Cool cake completely.

How to Test Cake for Doneness
To prevent overbaking, check cakes or cupcakes at the minimum baking time indicated in recipe. Insert a toothpick in center of cake. If it comes out clean, the cake is done. If it does not come out clean, return to the oven for a few additional minutes before rechecking.

Spice Cake
Prepare as directed, mixing 1/2 tsp. each ground cinnamon and ground cloves, and 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg with flour mixture before beating into butter mixture as directed.
