How to Ripen Pears
Pears do not ripen well on the tree, so they are picked when mature, but not yet ripe. To ripen fresh pears at home, place them in a paper bag, fold over the top and store at room temperature for 1 to 3 days. To test for ripeness, apply gentle thumb pressure at the base of the stem. If the fruit yields slightly, the pear is ripe. Use immediately or store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
For a main-dish salad, add 1 lb. boneless skinless chicken breasts, cooked and cut into strips.
Substitute an apple for the pear and/or PLANTERS Pecans for the walnuts.
