Meatballs made with both beef and pork are served with a zesty tomato sauce in this delicious Italian-style dish.
What You Need
Original recipe yields 4 servings
10 green onions, divided
1/2 lb. lean ground beef
1/2 lb. lean ground pork
1/4 cup dry bread crumbs
1 Tbsp. tomato paste
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
1 tsp. chopped fresh thyme
6 cloves garlic, minced, divided
2 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
1 yellow onion, finely chopped
1 can (28 oz.) crushed tomatoes, undrained
1/4 cup HEINZ 57 Sauce
1 Tbsp. sugar
1/4 cup KRAFT Grated Parmesan Cheese

Chop 3 green onions finely; place in large bowl. Slice remaining green onions; reserve for later use.
Add meats, bread crumbs, egg, tomato paste, thyme, pepper and 1/3 of the garlic to chopped onions in bowl; mix just until blended. Shape into 12 meatballs.
Heat oil in large skillet on medium-high heat. Add meatballs; cook 10 min. or until evenly browned, stirring occasionally. Remove meatballs from skillet, reserving drippings in skillet; set meatballs aside.
Add yellow onions to reserved drippings; cook on low heat 5 min., stirring occasionally. Add remaining garlic; cook and stir 1 min. Stir in tomatoes, 57 Sauce and sugar; mix well. Bring to boil on medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
Add meatballs to tomato mixture in skillet; simmer on low heat 8 to 10 min. or until meatballs are done (160ºF), stirring occasionally. Stir in reserved green onions; simmer 2 min., stirring occasionally. Remove from heat. Sprinkle with cheese.
Serve over hot cooked pasta or rice.
Serve with a bagged green salad tossed with your favorite KRAFT Dressing, such as Italian or Ranch.
