Original recipe yields 32 servings
1 cup sourdough starter (See tip.)
1-1/2 cups warm water
2 tsp. fast-rising yeast
1 Tbsp. honey
1 tsp. salt
5 cups flour
1 cup chopped PLANTERS Walnuts, toasted
1 egg white, lightly beaten

Combine sourdough starter, water, yeast, honey and salt in large bowl. Add flour and nuts; stir until mixture is well blended and forms soft dough. Knead until nuts are evenly dispersed. Place in bowl sprayed with cooking spray; turn dough over. Cover with plastic wrap. Let rise in warm place 1-1/2 hours or until doubled in volume.

Divide dough in half; shape each into oval loaf on parchment-covered baking sheet sprayed with cooking spray. Cover. Let rise in warm place 1 hour or until doubled in volume.

Heat oven to 375°F. Use serrated knife to cut 2 deep diagonal slices in top of each loaf; brush with egg white.

Bake 25 to 30 min. or until golden brown. Remove to wire rack; cool completely.

Active yeast usually requires an initial proofing of the yeast with warm liquid and sugar until bubbling before adding the other ingredients. Instant yeast does not require this first proofing step.

You can get some sourdough starter from a friend that has live sourdough starter or you can purchase in some specialty stores (often in the colder months) or all year long on the internet. Once purchased, just follow directions on how to feed it to keep it alive.

How to Easily Measure Honey
When measuring a sticky liquid such as honey, first spray the inside of the measuring spoon or cup with cooking spray. The sticky liquid will slide right out!
