Prepare for deliciousness when you make these Buttermilk Waffles. These crispy buttermilk waffles taste great when topped with maple syrup or fruit.
What You Need
Original recipe yields 10 servings
3 cups sliced fresh strawberries
1/4 cup sugar, divided
2 cups flour
2 tsp. CALUMET Baking Powder
1 tsp. baking soda
2 cups buttermilk
1/4 cup butter, melted
1-1/4 cups thawed COOL WHIP Whipped Topping

Spray electric waffle iron with cooking spray. Heat iron to medium heat. Toss strawberries with 2 Tbsp. sugar in medium bowl. Reserve for later use, stirring occasionally.
Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and remaining sugar in large bowl. Whisk egg, buttermilk and butter until blended. Add to flour mixture; stir just until blended. (Do not overmix.)
Pour amount of batter directed by manufacturer onto grids of waffle iron. Close lid quickly. (Do not open until waffle is done.) Cook according to manufacturer's directions. When done, lift waffle off grid with fork. Repeat with remaining batter.
Serve topped with strawberry mixture and COOL WHIP.
Substitute 1 cup milk mixed with 1 cup BREAKSTONE'S or KNUDSEN Sour Cream for the buttermilk.

How to Keep Waffles Warm
Heat oven to 200ºF. Place prepared waffles in single layer directly on rack to keep warm and crispy while cooking remaining waffles.
Omit strawberries and the 2 Tbsp. sugar tossed with the strawberries. Prepare waffles as directed. Serve topped with maple-flavored or pancake syrup.
