Original recipe yields 12 servings
2-1/4 cups flour
2 pkt. (1/4 oz. each) active dry yeast
3/4 cup sugar, divided
1 pkg. (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened, divided
3/4 cup butter, softened, divided
1 Tbsp. zest and 1/3 cup juice from 2 oranges, divided
1 whole egg
1 egg yolk

Let's Make It
Combine flour, yeast and 1/4 cup sugar in large bowl. Add half the cream cheese, 1/4 cup butter, 1/4 cup orange juice, whole egg and egg yolk; beat with mixer on low speed until mixture forms soft dough.
Place dough on lightly floured surface; knead 5 min. or until smooth and elastic. Shape into ball. Place in bowl sprayed with cooking spray; turn. Cover tightly with plastic wrap. Let rise in warm place 1 to 2 hours or until doubled in volume.
Punch down dough; place on floured surface. Roll out to 16-inch square.
Mix orange zest with remaining sugar, cream cheese and butter until blended; spread onto dough to within 1 inch of edges. Roll into log; cut crosswise into 12 slices.
Place dough slices, cut sides up, in 12 muffin pan cups sprayed with cooking spray; cover loosely with plastic wrap. Let rise in warm place 45 min. or until nearly doubled in volume.
Heat oven to 350ºF. Uncover dough. Bake 15 to 20 min. or until rolls are lightly browned. Cool 10 min. Remove from pan to wire rack; cool slightly.

Where to Place the Dough to Rise
If you don't have a warm or draft-free place for you to place the dough to rise, you can turn your oven on to 170ºF for 3 min. Turn oven off, then place the dough in the warm, not hot, oven to rise until doubled in volume as directed.
Since the rich dough is quite soft, you can use a hand mixer (or paddle attachment of a stand mixer) to mix the bread ingredients before kneading by hand as directed. If you have a dough hook attachment for your stand mixer, you can instead use that to knead the dough.
Technique for Testing Dough
The dough is ready when it has doubled in volume and a gentle impression with your finger holds its shape and doesn't spring back.
Make Ahead
These delicious rolls can be baked ahead of time. Store in airtight container up to 24 hours. If desired, warm in microwave oven just before serving. Or, place the dough slices in prepared muffin cups as directed; cover tightly with plastic wrap. Refrigerate up to 12 hours. When ready to serve, let rise, loosely covered with plastic wrap, in warm place 1-1/2 hours or until doubled in volume. Uncover, then bake as directed.
Special Extra
To add a simple cream cheese glaze, beat additional 4 oz. cream cheese with 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 1 Tbsp. milk in small bowl with mixer until blended. If too thick to easily drizzle over the warm rolls, blend in additional 1 Tbsp. milk. Drizzle over the warm rolls.
