Say pecan recipes, and some of us will automatically think “pie.” And certainly pecan pies are one of life’s greatest culinary pleasures—but pecans are a many-splendored thing. Yes, you can make pie with them, and yes, they make other pies yummier. They can make the crumble on an apple crumb pie sing; they make a great topping for your chocolate pie or caramel pie. But they’re also wonderful in many non-pie desserts. We’re thinking mini cheesecakes, banana breads and all kinds of truffles, fudge and candy. And they’re not just for the sweet-tooth crowd. Pecans lend their nutty flavor to all kinds of savory dishes, from apple salads and spinach salad recipes to cheese balls and other easy appetizers.
